To heck with it

Warm-up drawings from last week. Hey! Who went to Mocca? Apparently you could buy my prints there, but I couldn't see any pictures online. I wonder if I sold many...

I went to MoCCA, I talked with your man Matt Hawkins (I know Matt) and I was wearing your T-shirt and he was standing behind your poster as this conversation occurred.

I love these warm ups, they're great!

Crazy!!

I haven't spoke to Matt Hawkins since like 3 years ago when he invited me to be part of his zine and I turned him down because he'd been a jerk to a friend of mine OMG DRAMA

(Also that was the only time I ever spoke to him)

I was right next to him at the show, where he was busting his ass the entire time and sold a good number of your prints, friend.

Yeah, I figure it would be appropriate to attempt some sort of reconciliation at this juncture

Attract Mode's logo was also done by someone who Matt's been a huge jerk to in the past. I'm not sure what to make of it, besides that maybe he doesn't take these internet beefs as seriously as he once did (we're talking about a dude who once phoned up a guy from the internet on NEW YEAR'S EVE to call him a dick)

If there's a genuine problem you have with Matt, you should talk to him and straighten it out. He's very receptive and yes, he has mellowed out since the time I think you're talking about. But if you're not interested in that, just know that he is working insanely hard for Attract Mode, and nothing personal about any of the artists involved was ever uttered while I was watching him sell.

In case you're wondering why I'm getting involved, I'm Matt's girlfriend and I don't like to see him badmouthed, especially when I've seen him work his ass off to this extent. It seems any hatchets (I'm not privy to internet battlez from way back, and I can't say I'm terribly interested either) have been proverbially buried for the greater good of Attract Mode. But then, if you feel they're not, please take it up with Matt.

Sure thing. Check the tape, though- I wasn't badmouthing him, just voicing the strange position I find myself in. My stuff being sold by a guy I have an odd history with.

Oh hell, this shit is awesome. The close-up face on the first one is great, and everything's really dynamic. Solid work!

Thanks!

Hey man I'm thinking of teaching english as a foreign language in Korea through the EPIK program. What did you do it through? Did you need tefl? What qualifications did you have at the time that you applied? Any advice you could give me?
15th-Apr-2010 12:23 pm (UTC)
I didn't have any qualifications at the time relevant to teaching- just my Animation BA. So long as you've got a degree in something, you'll be ok.

just post your resume on http://www.eslcafe.com/ and maybe some others, along with a smart, friendly looking picture of yourself, and the offers will start flooding in immediately. Don't have a beard in your picture, or they'll think you're a bandit or other type of vagabond.

If you start in the middle of the school year, like you'll probably be doing, you might not get an induction and you'll be a little in the dark as to what you're meant to be doing there- in that case, be sure to ask your co-teacher for a copy of the curriculum for the classes you'll be teaching, and teach lessons based around that. If you try to pull lesson plans out of your ass like I did, you'll mostly just confuse the kids with stuff they've not got around to learning yet.

Also, any lesson you do should be spun out over three lessons, don't worry about coming up with a new thing every time.

take plenty of blutac, english tea, marmite, ketchup, things like that, since they don't have any concept of those things

Just put your resume on dave's esl and take it from there. You'll need to do stuff like go into the police station and ask for them to send you a criminal record check, which you'd better do ASAP because those motherfuckers like to taaaaake theeeeeir tiiiiime.

Also ring up your university and ask for sealed copies of your degree. Better do those things now, because they're frustrating to have to wait on when all you want to do is hop on a plane and get out of there.

You'll have to go to a doctor and get some kind of a check-up or other, too. Finally, you'll be wanting to take all that stuff to the Korean Embassy in London (assuming you're Northern Irish?). There's lots of stuff you need to do to get a korean work visa, but it's worth it!

Feel free to keep asking me for advice along the way. Good luck!

I was at MoCCA giving out comics and I saw your print and went over to try and talk to you until I realized the man standing there WAS NOT YOU.

Anyway, i didn't have the money to buy a print otherwise that shit would be up on my wall right now.

Also: sweet warmup sketches. Dig that spot coloring!

I saw your print at Mocca, and did a double take to remember where it was from.
