HEY!
I dunno how long you've been following this blog for, so here's a brief recap of the story so far: I'm James, from England. In December last year I quit my job teaching English in South Korea to become a full-time illustrator. Professionally, I am known as HARVEYJAMES™! Since I started pursuing full-time illustration in earnest I've been crazy busy, making more work in the past 6 months than I have have done in the past year and a half. F'rinstance, I did a comic with my pal Daphny for Vice Magazine, and then another thing for the commissioning editor of Adult Swim. I designed a t-shirt for the Wii release of my favorite video game, Cave Story, as well as logos for rap groups and record labels! And a bunch of stuff I can't talk about! Also, today was my first day in my first proper studio, to work on a full-length comic book! What!
In addition to that stuff there was something on my blog this year that took off like crazy, which I did not expect at all:
GROUP ACTIVITIES
You remember the Choose a Cat, Draw A Girl activity, where over 250 of you submitted drawings of ladies based on my own drawings of cats, and we put it all together into an incredible group art project, right! And the week before that was Activity Week, where I drew an unifinished picture of something or other and challenged you to fill in the blanks. Then there was Black Lion Week which was like Choose a Cat, Draw A Girl only this time I designed the characters to be unpopular and unlikeable! It did not work! You made amazing work all the same! And let's not forget this activity, possibly the granddaddy of them all; tell me the name of this cat and if it is going to heaven or to hell and why. All had incredible responses which make me glad so many cool people read this Livejournal! Maybe it was time my blog gave something back to its readership, am I right!
Ok, well here is the skinny, ya'll:
This week, we're going to be doing a new group project. Possibly, it'll be the last one for some time.
And, thanks to our friends at Doshiwa Records, there will be a £100 cash prize.
THAT'S RIGHT $164 CASH PRIZE no foolin'
The details of the competition will be revealed on wednesday, whereupon it will run for a month! There'll also be a booby prize for the dumbest most horrible entry, so everyone has a chance to win! Check back for details! Tell your friends!

| Alright, well safe to say Activity Week was a RESOUNDING SUCCESS
In fact, I'm blown away by how talented you all are, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this Cats Wearing Hats collaboration is going to turn out. People are still submitting drawings to that, so I think I'm going to leave it open for five more days before I start putting them all together. Thanks to everybody who has submitted something so far, and if you feel like doing another one, be my guest!
(By the way, here's a drawing I didn't get around to using:)

Without further ado, here is the Activity Week Hall of Fame! I also had a go at each of the activities on my
own time, so I'll be slipping those in there too.

| Y'all thought I forgot about you, huh I'm going to make this one extra difficult by adding a caveat: NO CRUDITY | |

| The images I've been posting are in fact from the handmade activity books I gave out as prizes for the competition we had to promote our game, Mighty Jill Off. This one is themed around the characters from the game: Large versionI'm pretty pleased with all the books except for chamonkee 's which I kind of rushed because I was going to see him to give it him in person, and I didn't realise I was going to put as much effort into the other books I made. I think he liked it anyway. Sorry 'bout that, because your competition entry was awesome! All the notebooks were different. One of them looked like this: By the way, if you'd like to check out what else was in the Jill Off Activity Books, the pages are all stored in a folder here: http://www.maudevintage.com/jamesharvey/files/jillactivitybook/ | |

| Hey! Looks like we sprouted a lot of new readers in the last week- this blog has over 400 readers now, in fact! I think this calls for a GETTING TO KNOW YOU SESSION, guys Here's what we'll do: every day this week I will post a picture with one crucial detail missing, and it's up to you to fill it in and post your version in the comments. If you can't draw, that's cool too! You can use oil paints or you can MSPaint, HAVING FUN IS THE KEY Ok! The first image is called '1961'! Click for a larger version
I'm pretty busy today, so I'll check in at the end of the day to see how you got on. Man! I am looking forward to seeing what you do! At the end of the week all the coolest entries will go in a hall of fame, so whether you're a bigshot comic artist or if you just picked up a pencil for the first time and it was with your butt, I want to see you all having a go. Make friends, ok! | |
