| Here's a short FAQ about our competition, for those who didn't get to check the comments to the previous post: Q1: Hey James, what happens if the winning entry uses a character I designed? Do I get a cut of the winnings? A: I've thought about this conundrum, and this is best I can come up with: Since all the characters are based on my designs anyway, it's hard for any one person to claim intellectual ownership of the character's likeness; however, I fully understand that the author of the appropriated work may feel an entitlement to part of the winnings. The best I can offer is that if you're not ok with someone using your character, please post your cat girl / lion lady in response to this comment and it'll be added to a roster of off-limits characters. Otherwise, your consent will be assumed. I know this might not please everybody, but it's the simplest and most effective solution! If the winner wants to share out some bucks with the people whose characters he uses, that is totally ok too but in no way obligatory Q2: Do we have to use characters people made, or can we just make more of our own interpretations of the original cats & lions? A: You are free to make more of your own interperatations if you wish! Q3: Are we limited to one entry? A: You can enter as many times as you like! It's concieveable you could try for both the grand and the booby prize, if you wanted. Q4: What if i'm not a LiveJournal user? A: My livejournal allows anonymous comments from non-livejournal users, so anyone can enter, so long as you leave me your name and email address/url with your entry. You can also email me, if you prefer! Q5: Should we worry about making the comic short enough to fit on a flyer, or whatnot? A: I am totally ok with you making it as long as you like! If we choose to use it on a flyer but it's 700 pages long, we'll just put a URL linking to the rest of the story. If you have any more questions, ask away! £100 CASH PRIZE no foolin'

COMPETITION! The hour is upon us! To celebrate the release of their “At Least We Can Dance” Remix EP out on August 31st on Doshiwa records, live soul / funk / house heads DEKATA PROJECT have taken over my livejournal to help run a neato mosquito ART COMPETITION
Dekata Project, who have recently enjoyed airplay on BBC Radio 1 courtesy of Fabio and Grooverider and Rob Da Bank, have also been featured as a single of the week in The Metro, and have been singled out for a "bubbling under" feature in September’s issue of iDJ magazine.
In addition to a cash prize, your winning entry will be used as promotional material to advertise their Remix EP! That is crazy! Be sure to write your name on it in big letters!
RULES! Over the past few months, readers of my livejournal have created a huge amount of amazing artwork and characters- there were all the characters in the Choose a Cat, Draw A Girl project, henceforth to as CAT GIRLS, and then the people from Black Lion Week , who I will now be calling LION LADIES. If you've never seen them, I urge you do check them out!
Cat Girls and Lion Ladies- two seperate factions, as different as night and day! Or are they? Maybe they're pals! Maybe they have never met! In fact, we don't know anything about these people. They exist in a timeless void, characters in search of a novel. And that's where you come in. 1:) Take ANY TWO OR MORE characters from the huge roster of Cat Girls and Lion Ladies. 2:) Make a comic strip based on them! It can be 4 panels long or an Akira-length epic. You can also submit prose or an illustrated story, if you want. 3:) Then, post it in the comments of this livejournal! That's it! You have a month! GRAND WINNER gets £100 CASH PRIZE That's a hundred and sixty-four American dollars!
Also! There is a mystery BOOBY PRIZE for dumbest, most horrible entry to be judged and awarded by Daphaknee! Everyone has a chance to win!
Competition Closes September 27th, 2009
Good luck! Tell your friends! See the comments for FAQ (kind of important).

HEY!
I dunno how long you've been following this blog for, so here's a brief recap of the story so far: I'm James, from England. In December last year I quit my job teaching English in South Korea to become a full-time illustrator. Professionally, I am known as HARVEYJAMES™! Since I started pursuing full-time illustration in earnest I've been crazy busy, making more work in the past 6 months than I have have done in the past year and a half. F'rinstance, I did a comic with my pal Daphny for Vice Magazine, and then another thing for the commissioning editor of Adult Swim. I designed a t-shirt for the Wii release of my favorite video game, Cave Story, as well as logos for rap groups and record labels! And a bunch of stuff I can't talk about! Also, today was my first day in my first proper studio, to work on a full-length comic book! What!
In addition to that stuff there was something on my blog this year that took off like crazy, which I did not expect at all:
GROUP ACTIVITIES
You remember the Choose a Cat, Draw A Girl activity, where over 250 of you submitted drawings of ladies based on my own drawings of cats, and we put it all together into an incredible group art project, right! And the week before that was Activity Week, where I drew an unifinished picture of something or other and challenged you to fill in the blanks. Then there was Black Lion Week which was like Choose a Cat, Draw A Girl only this time I designed the characters to be unpopular and unlikeable! It did not work! You made amazing work all the same! And let's not forget this activity, possibly the granddaddy of them all; tell me the name of this cat and if it is going to heaven or to hell and why. All had incredible responses which make me glad so many cool people read this Livejournal! Maybe it was time my blog gave something back to its readership, am I right!
Ok, well here is the skinny, ya'll:
This week, we're going to be doing a new group project. Possibly, it'll be the last one for some time.
And, thanks to our friends at Doshiwa Records, there will be a £100 cash prize.
THAT'S RIGHT $164 CASH PRIZE no foolin'
The details of the competition will be revealed on wednesday, whereupon it will run for a month! There'll also be a booby prize for the dumbest most horrible entry, so everyone has a chance to win! Check back for details! Tell your friends!

| But it is not my birthday! Instead, it was the birthday of little Harvey James, 2005 TOWARDS TOMORROW It's crazy, but it turns out the commissioning editor of Adult Swim has a son called Harvey James, and she hired me to do a birthday portrait for him. She found me through googling her son's own name! I feel like I lucked out incredibly, somehow As you can see, I completely over-delivered; I'd been planning on mucking around with drawing electric cars for a while, though, so this represented a pretty great opportunity to do that. The car little Harvey James drives is a Q-Volt: it's the electric car Akira Toriyama designed for CQ Motors. The other car that's shaped like a guitar is in there because lil' HJ loves guitars, as well as cars. you can examine all of the cars in closer detail on my deviantart gallery! | |

| So a few weeks back I sort of casually suggested that you might want to do drawings based on these little Islamic veil-wearing characters I drew which, as ryclaude , elfshotthefood and yunni will attest, I drew in the pub; and DAMN! i was not prepared for the response! You are all amazing! I wish there were prizes I could give out, but until that day comes the best I can do is showcase your work on this livejournal here. We had over 50 entries! I think! To help lighten the load, I enlisted secretarybot to talk about your drawings! As some of you know, she is a burger-lovin' robot secretary of my own creation. "Hello, I am Secretarybot, the lovable robot made out of burgers and sass, probably not in that order! I've been programmed by HARVEYJAMES™ to pretend to care about your art, so I'm-a get to pretendin'! Without further ado, here are the entries in no particular order!" ( ACTUALLY THE ORDER IS ALPHABETICAL (CLICK!) ) | |

| You gotta excuse all the watermarks on these pictures, it's just so if they get posted to somewhere else people will know who did it ( also I'm a horrendous egotist) These customized sneakers were done for the winner of last year's Mighty Jill Off fan art competition. I'm not currently accepting shoe commissions, but if you're interested in me doing something like this for you in the future, make some rumblings in the comments (or just draw a picture of yourself wearing them and carry it around to show to people, whatever works) Heroes of Black Lion week is coming I promise | |

| Artowkr for a flyer. Feel free to name them, write poems about them, tell me what you think they are, draw them as 'real girls' | |

| Done! This took all of sunday, as I predicted. Apologies to the people whose drawings I couldn't fit in- I was still getting submissions as I was making this thing and I tried wherever possible to add them, but eventually I had to draw the line. Besides a couple of extreme latecomers, however, I used every single image that was submitted. I was originally planning on making this into some kind of image you could use as a desktop wallpaper, but man, there were so many submissions, the only way I could really do it was as a super-long scroll. So the same warnings apply to this as applied to my Super Mario comic from a while back: give it a minute to load, 'cause this will probably take a while if you're on a slow connection. I asked you to choose one of my cat wearing a hat drawings. and draw a picture of what you thought it looked like as a human female woman! You responded in droves, and I compiled them all into one group collaborative image! Achieved in our spare time in under a month, it is a feat that our grandparents would have considered witchcraft! You are heroes of the modern age! The future is here to stay! You might want to listen to your favorite pop song while you look through this (probably Michael Jackson). Click the link to continue.
